| Adaption | the process or result of changing to fit new conditions, environments, or purposes |
| Habitat | the natural environment or place where a plant, animal, or other organism normally lives, grows, and reproduces |
| Natural selection | an evolutionary mechanism where organisms with inherited traits better suited to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce |
| Hypothesis | a proposed, tentative explanation for a phenomenon, observation, or scientific question that can be tested through experimentation or research |
| Variation | any difference, change, or deviation in form, position, condition, or amount from a norm, standard, or expected state |
| Species | the basic unit of biological classification and a group of individual organisms that share common traits and can interbreed to produce fertile offspring |
| Evolve | to develop, change, or grow gradually over time, often moving from a simpler state to a more complex, advanced, or better-adapted form |
| Population | the total number of people, animals, or living organisms that live in a specific area or region at a given time |
| Predator | an organism that naturally hunts, kills, and consumes other organisms (its prey) for food |
| Prey | an animal that is hunted, caught, and killed for food by another animal |
| Environment | the set of physical, chemical, biological, social, or cultural conditions and surroundings that affect the growth, health, development, and survival of a living organism or system. |
| Evolution | a gradual process of change, development, or growth from one state to another over time |
| Decomposers | living organisms that break down dead plants, animals, and waste materials into simple nutrients |
| Extinction | the state or process in which a group, species, language, or physical phenomenon no longer exists anywhere on Earth |
| Climate | the long-term pattern of atmospheric conditions—including temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and sunshine—typically averaged over a 30-year period |
| Hibernate | to spend the winter in a deep, sleep-like state of inactivity to survive cold weather and food shortages |
| Biomes | a large, distinct geographical region defined by its specific climate, soil, vegetation, and animal life |
| Fitness (in natural selection) | an organism's relative ability to survive, reproduce, and pass its genetic traits on to the next generation |
