|---|---|
| Asexual Reproduction | Biological process where a signle parent organism produces offspring without fertilization. |
| Sexual Reproduction | Biological process where two reproductive cells (gametes) combine to form a unique diploid offspring. |
| Chromosome | Structure made of protein and a single molecule of DNA. |
| Chromatid | One of the two identical halves of a duplicated chromosome. |
| Gene | The basic physical and functional unit of heredity composed of DNA. |
| Allele | One of two or more variations of a gene located at a specific position on a chromosome. |
| Meiosis | A specialized type of cell division in sexually reproducing organisms that reduces the chromosome number in half. |
| Homologous chromosomes | A paired set of one maternal and one parental chromosome in a diploid organism that share the same lenth and gene sequence. |
| Tetrad | A group of four chromatids formed when two paired homologous chromosomes come together during meiosis. |
| Crossing Over | Biological process where homolgous chromosomes pair up and exchange segments of genetic material during meiosis. |
| Gamete | Reproductive sex cell that unites with another cell during sexual reproduction. |
| Diploid | A cell or organism that has two complete sets of chromosomes, one inherited from each parent. |
