Historical Criticism Examines the time period a story was written in or in which it is set.
Feminist criticism Examines women's issues- generally the oppression of women by men.
Psychoanalytical criticism Examines a character's personality or motivation. Taking a specific illness showing how a character's actions show symptoms of said disease. Proving something about a character's psyche.
Biographical criticism Examines an author's life or beliefs detailing how those beliefs are shown in the action of the story.
Formalist criticism Examines one aspect of a story (structure, pov, symbolism, tone, etc).
What are the elements of gothic literature? Supernatural, ironic, or unusual events.
Describe Flannery O'Connor. What was she like in real life? Where is she from? What was her religious background? Her social background? What did she write? O'Conner was a catholic girl who was raised in Milledgville, Georgia. She was mainly seen as an outcast, she was also diagnosed with lupus, so she had to permanently walk with crutches. O'Connor wrote rather grotesque stories, "A Good Man is Hard to Find"
