Physics Unit 1

1.3: Dynamics

QuestionAnswer
What is Newtons first law? An abject will remain at rest or at a constant motion of constant velocity unless acted upon by a external, resultant force.
What's Newtons third law? If body A exerts a force on body B, then body B exerts an equal and opposite force on body A.
What are the important conditions for Newtons third law? . The two forces act on two different bodies . Both forces are always of the same type . The forces are equal in magnitude . The forces are opposite in direction
What are free body diagrams? Shows the forces that act upon a body
What is the law of conservation of linear momentum? The vector sum of the momentum of bodies in a system stays constant provided there is no external resultant force acting on that system.
'Total momentum before collision = total momentum a___ c_____' after collision
'velocity is a vector so it may be n_____' negativete
Whats the equation for KE? KE = 1/2MV^2
Is KE smaller or bigger after a collision? smaller
'A collision in which KE is 'lost' is known as an ______ equation' inelastic
'If KE energy is lost in an inelastic equation, in a elastic equation it will be the same b____ and a____' before and after
What's Newtons 2nd law? The rate of change of momentum of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on it, and takes place in the direction of that force.
The equation for Force is: F=MA, how else can this equation be written as? F= MV - MU ( Then entirely divided by T )
The equation:F= MV - MU ( Then entirely divided by T ) for force can also be written as an impulse, what is this equation? F T= MV - MU
What is an impulse? Change in momentum, shown by the equation: F T= MV - MU
What's the equation for weight? Weight = mass x gravity

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
