Energy Transfer
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Electrical Energy | Energy that comes from the movement of charged particles. It is a type of energy of motion. |
| Thermal Energy | The internal energy of an object due to the energy of motion of its particles. The faster the particles move, the warmer the substance gets. |
| Sound Energy | A type of energy produced by vibrations of a material. |
| Vibration | The back and forth motion that produces sound. All sounds begin with vibration. |
| Sound Wave | A wave that transfers energy through a material and spreads outwards in all directions from a vibration. |
| Longitudinal Waves | Sound waves vibrate the medium in the same direction that energy moves, sound moves in longitudinal waves. |
| Light Energy | A type of energy that consists of particles. Light travels as tiny particles of energy, it can travel with or without a medium. Nothing travels faster than light in a vacuum. |
| Electric Current | The flow of electricity through a conductor. |
| Conductor | A material through which electricity flows easily. |
| Insulator | A material that slows or stops the flow of energy, such as electricity or sound. |
| Circuit | A path through which electric current can flow. Students need to know series, parallel, and short circuit. |
| Heat | Movement of energy from a warmer object to a cooler object. Conduction, Convection, and Radiation |
