Organisms called autotrophs that capture energy from nonliving sources and convert it into forms living cells can use. They are the 1st producers of energy-rich compounds that can be used later by other organisms. All life depends on them.

The main primary producers is the sunlit parts of the ocean, some bacteria can also do this in some places like tidal flats, salt marshes and mangrove forests.

Chemosynthesis and life without light

Bacteria that harnesses chemical energy from inorganic molecules such as hydrogen sulfide. It uses chemosynthesis to produce carbohydrates. The Bactria lives inside tissues of vent worms and large clams. They can also be found deep in Earth's crust.
