| conditional statement | statement written in the form "if p then q" |
| hypothesis | it is the "IF" part of a conditional statement |
| conclusion | is the "THEN" part of a conditional statement |
| negation | the OPPOSITE of the statement |
| inverse | a conditional statement formed by NEGATING both the hypothesis and conclusion |
| converse | a conditional statement formed by SWITCHING(INTERCHANGING)the hypothesis and conclusion |
| contrapositive | conditional statement formed by SWITCHING(INTERCHANGING) and NEGATING the hypothesis and conclusion |
| deductive reasoning | type of reasoning that uses facts, definitions, properties, and accepted statements to reach a logical conclusion |

| theorem | statement that has been proven true |
| two column proof | proof organized into TWO columns, statements, and reasons |
| paragraph proof | proof written as a paragraph using complete sentences |
| postulate | statement that is accepted TRUE without PROOF |
| compound statement | tow or more statements joined by the word and or |
| truth value | designation of statement is either true or false ; gives the statement the TRUE or FALSE value |
| Disjunction | where statements are joined by the letter “OR” to make a new statement |
| Algebraic Proof | is a step by step logical argument that uses algebraic rules, properties, and theorems to demonstrate the truth of a mathematical statement or equation |
| Truth Table | it is a table that lists all possible combinations of truth values in a logical statement and shows the resulting truth value of the compound statement |
| Related Conditionals | the related conditionals of a statement or its converse, inverse, and contrapositive; the contrapositive is always logically equivalent to the original condition |
| Statement | it is a declarative sentence that is either true or false, but not both |
| Deductive argument | is a sequence of statements intended to show that a conclusion follows logically from giving information. |
