Important Algebra 1 OST Vocab

TermDefinition
Function A rule takes an input number, does a specific operation on it, and gives back one exact output number
Input The starting value or independent variable (usually represented by the letter x). You choose or control this value.
Output The ending value or dependent variable (usually represented by y or f(x)). Its value depends entirely on the input and the rule.
Independent variable Is an input value that you choose or change (usually represented by the letter x)
Dependent variable Is an output value that changes based on the independent variable. (usually represented by y or f(x))
*Sequence a list of numbers in a particular order.
*Recursive definition a sequence that includes the first term and a rule for finding every term that follows.
*Arithmetic sequence: sequences that change by a constant difference (adding and subtracting)
*Geometric sequence a sequence that changes by a constant ratio (multiplying)
*Explicit equation formula that determines the value of any term in a sequence using the term number
*Model a mathematical representation. Ie. graph, equation, or a relationship of a situation.
