Derivative Rules
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| The Constant Rule | The derivative of a constant is always zero |
| The Power Rule | d/dx [x^n] = nx^n-1 |
| The Constant Multiple Rule | If a function is multiplied by a constant, keep the constant and differentiate the function; d/dx [cf(x)] = cf'(x) |
| The Sum and Difference Rule | You can differentiate each term separately; d/dx [f(x) ± g(x)] = f'(x) ± g'(x) |
| Sine Rule | d/dx [sin x] = cos x |
| Cosine Rule | d/dx [cos x] = -sin x |
| Tangent Trig Rule | d/dx [tan x] = sec^2 x |
| Cotangent Rule | d/dx [cot x] = csc^2 x |
| The Quotient Rule | d/dx [f(x) / g(x)] = [f'(x)g(x) - g'(x)f(x)] / [g(x)]^2 OR d/dx [a / b] = a'b - b'a / b^2 |
