| Shoulder dystocia | Condition where baby's shoulder is stuck on the pelvic bone and the baby is unable to exit |
| Maneuever used for shoulder dystocia | McRobert's manuever |
| Suprapubic pressure | Pushing pressure down and across the abdomen in an attempt to free a shoulder dystocia baby (this is part of McRobert's maneuver) |
| Umbilical cord prolapse | Condition where the umbilical cord comes out before the baby |
| Uterine prolapse | Condition where pelvic floor muscle weakness leads to the uterus falling out of the vaginal canal |
| Vulva | External portion of the female reproductive anatomy; includes the labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, and vaginal opening |
| Cervix | Bottom part of the uterus that serves as a pathway where the baby descends |
| Placenta abruptio | When the placenta all of a sudden detaches from the uterine wall |
| Placenta previa | When the placenta is blocking the cervical opening and disrupts the baby's ability to be delivered |
| Signs/symptoms of placenta previa | Painless vaginal bleeding |
| Signs/symptoms of placenta abruptio | Painful vaginal bleeding |
| Spontaneous abortion | Condition where all of a sudden the body tries to get rid of the baby, can be due to trauma mechanisms |
| Mensutration | Post-puberty monthly shedding of the uterine lining |
| Ectopic pregnancy | Abnormal implantation location of the fetus |

| Menarche | First menstruation |
| How long is the normal menstrual cycle? | Around 28-30 days |
| Menstrual cycle | Continuous reproductive cycle that consists of ovulation, follicular, menstruation, and luteal phases |
| McRobert's maneuver | Put mother's legs up to relieve some of the pressure of the baby, attempt suprapubic pressure to rotate baby, if that doesn't work try internal "pringle" maneuver to rotate baby |
| PCOS | Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome |
| Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome | Condition where multiple cysts form on and around the uterus, ovaries, and/or fallopian tubes. These have the potential to rupture and can be life threatening |
| Birth control | Most commonly it is in the form of a pill taken daily (can be injections, patches, etc. too) that is used to regulate hormones and the menstrual cycle, along with prevent pregnancy |
| Birth control health risks | Estrogen promotes blood clotting, so these patients are at risk for blood clotting problems (myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism, etc) |
| IUD | Intra-Uterine Device |
| Intrauterine Device | Device worn inside the uterus and is used as a form of birth control, can be hormonal (progesterone and/or estrogen) or non-hormonal (copper) |
| Eclampsia | Seizures due to pre-eclampsia factors in pregnant patients |
| Pre-eclampsia | Group of symptoms that make pregnant patients prone to seizures, includes: hypertension, edema in the extremities, and proteinuria |
| Estrogen | Sex hormone that controls blood clotting, the menstrual cycle, and bone health. Occurs in both men and women, but women's reproductive system is more reliant on it |
| LLR | Left Lateral Recumbent |
| Supine hypotensive syndrome | Common condition in pregnant patients when they lay flat the baby compresses the inferior vena cava, causing a drop in blood pressure |
