Study Guide for Assessment

QuestionAnswer
Genre Is a specific category or type of literature. music., movie or art. classified by shared style, form or content
Subgenre A specific, narrower category within a big genre of literature, film or media.
nonfiction Writing that is based on facts and real events, not made up like fiction.
Narrative Nonfiction A genre that tells true stories using story telling.
text features are the visual and structural elements in a book or article that are not the main text
author's purpose in the main reason why a writer created a book, story or article
main idea A main point that the author is making ( also called the central idea); its what the article is about.
supporting details information used to support an argument, claim or main idea.
summary a short statement or paragraph that tells what a text is about.
cause why something happens
effect what happens as a result
point of view WHO is telling the story
persepctive a characters outlook or view of events
text structure the way an author organizes information and ideas within a piece of writing.
Observation something fact based you experience through your five senses.
infererence What you think or decided about something you have observed
P in Authors Purpose stands for P= persuade, to convince the reader to do or believe something
I in Authors Purpose stands for I- Inform to give the reader information or teach something
E in Authors Purpose stands for E- Entertain to hold the readers attention through entertainment.
P.O.V First Person is from the characters point of view
Pronouns found in first person I, Me, We, Us
P.O.V Second Person Refers to the narrator telling YOU the reader something
P.O.V Third Person Omniscient The narrator is Omniscient - outside the action and knows and tells all.
P.O.V - Third Person Limited The narrator is outside the action of the story
