Pentoxifylline

Pentoxifylline T, P T: Intermittent Claudication P: Coagulation modifier/platelet aggregate inhibitor
Pentoxifylline MOA Reduces viscosity of RBC and increases flexibility. Allows RBCs to enter partially occluded vessels. Reduces hypoxia and pain in the muscle.
SE of Pentoxifylline Dyspepsia, N/V, dizziness, myalgia, HA, CNS, effects, heart failure, MI
Contraindications to Pentoxifylline Do not use if allergic to caffeine or theophylline. DO not use for recent bleeding in brain or retina.
Nursing considerations Monitor for bleeding, if taking blood thinner, may need frequent PT/INR monitoring.
