Two systems of measurement 1. US Customary/Impirical -Only in USA 2. Metric system (SI)
length(width, height) Metric base unit is meter -millimeter =1/1000 of meter -centimeter =1/100 of meter -meter -kilometer =1000 meters
Mass/weight -weight depends on gravity -spring scale pulled by gravity
Mass Amount of matter -does not depend on gravity -basic unit gram -milligram= 1/1000th of gram -Gram -kilogram = 1000 grams
balance -start all riders on zero -move riders largest to smallest -add up the riders
Volume Amount of space taken up -basic unit – liter (only for liquid liquids) 1ml-liquids 1cm3-solid/gas
Graduated cylinder -meniscus – bottom of the curve
Rectangular or cubic shaped -length X width, X height
Density Measure of the mass of a material in a given volume Formula: density= mass\volume
Density formula -d=m/v -m=d x v -v= m/d
Density determines sink/float Ice floats because it is less dense than liquid water
