Parts of Speech

Parts of Speech and their sub catagories

QuestionAnswer
Noun Person, place, thing, or idea
Verb What is being done in a sentence.
Pronoun A word that takes the place of a noun.
Common Noun The everyday name for something.
Proper Noun The SPECIFIC name for something.
Compound Noun A noun that is made by combining two or more words together.
Collective Noun A noun that names a group of things.
Concrete Noun A noun that you can interact with using one or more of your five senses.
Abstract Noun A noun that can be thought about or felt (with your emotions) but not touched or seen.
Action Verb A word that is physical or mental that someone does.
Linking Verb A word that connects a noun with an adjective or a noun at the end of the sentence.
Helping Verb a verb that is one of 23 that gives more information about what is being done in the sentence. It is paird with an action verb.
Verb Phrase a helping verb and action/main verb used together.
Pronoun A word that takes the place of a noun.
Adjective modifies a noun
Adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or adverb.
