MG11 Statement writing 2

QuestionAnswer
Name the 7 golden rules of MG11 statement writing Chronological order, first person/past tense, plain English/no jargon, facts only/no opinion, one sentence one fact, specifics not vague language, written close to the time
What tense and person should a statement be written in? First person, past tense ("I saw," "I heard")
What are the 5 structural parts of an MG11? Declaration header, Introduction (who/where/when), Body (chronological account), Continuity/exhibit references, Conclusion (actions taken, time finished)
Name 3 common MG11 mistakes Switching tense mid-statement, vague time references, omitting how you know a fact (direct observation vs PNC check vs told by someone else)
Why must you state HOW you know a fact? So the reader can distinguish direct observation from second-hand information — presenting one as the other undermines the statement's reliability
What must an exhibit reference in a statement include? A unique exhibit number/label (usually officer's initials + sequential number), what the item is, and where/when it was seized
