TermDefinition
Inductive reasoning Make a conclusion based on observations and patterns. (eg. 39,31, 24,.... Generate the next term)
Conjecture A concluding statement reaction using inductive reasoning. (eg. Generate the next term subtract 7 from the previous term.)
Statement A statement is a sentence that is either true or false. the true or false is called a truth value.
Negation A negation of a statement hast he opposite truth value.
Compound statements Two or more statements joined by the words "and" or "or"
Conjunction Statements joined by the word "and". It is true when both statements are true.
Disjunction statements joined by the word "or". True when one of the statements is true.
Conditional statements A statement that can be written in if-then form.
Hypothesis The part of the conditional statement that comes directly after the "if".
conclusion The part of the conditional statement that comes directly after the "then"
Inverse Formed when the hypothesis and conclusion are negated
converse formed by switching the hypothesis and conclusion are switched.
contrapositive formed by switching and negating the hypothesis and conclusion.
biconditional Formed when the conditional and its converse are true.
counter example an example that shows the conjecture is false
