Short Story Vocabulary

TermDefinitionPart of Speech
Root A base word that is a foundation of a bigger word.
Prefix A short word part that goes in front of a root word, and it can change a word’s meaning.
Suffix A word part that is added to the end of a root word. They help to make derivatives of base words.
hyper A prefix meaning super
Con A Latin prefix meaning with or come together; A belief or opinion; can also mean a guilty verdict for a crime committed Noun
Chron Root word for time; arranged in the order of time Adjective
-tion / -ion Suffix meaning act or process
-able Suffix that means is or can be; turns nouns into adjectives
