Carpenter Bees don't eat wood but they use it as shelter. Where do they normally build their shelters? Unpainted doors, window sills, roof eaves, singles, railings, telephone poles, & lawn furniture
What is a sign that there are Powder Post Beetle activity/infestation? Fine, flour-like powder around wood ** Most damage is done by larvae as they feed they create narrow tunnels in the wood
What is the life cycle of a Powder Post Beetle? 1) Egg - 1-4 weeks, laid on/in wood 2) Larva - 1.5 months - 12 years, feeding within the wood 3) Pupa - 1-4 weeks, changes into adult 4) Adult - 1-35 days, flying, mating, laying eggs CYCLE then repeats to step 1
How would an inspector perform an Exterior inspection for WDI? 1) Start a base corner of garage, look for signs of WDI with flashlight 2) Proceed around the house/building (clock-wise), look at the skirt/siding & trim for signs of WDI 3) Step 2 all around the house/building until you get back to your starting point
What is the process for a WDI inspection in the Basement? 1) Inspect sill plates, both sides of the joists, with a flashlight search for signs of WDI 2) Look for frass along wood and sill plates 3) Look for body parts (termites) 4) Check old wood for PPB - they wont be in newer Wood
