What year did Cyrus the Great command the Persian Empire? 559 BCE
What where Persian Governors called? What did they do? Satraps, they ran other districts of the Persian Empire.
How did the Royal Road work? What is it? It is a 1500 mile road meant for royal messengers to travel along safely, rest stops occurring every 30 miles.
What kind of political system was Greece? It was a collection of different city-states, everyone having different ways of conducting themselves.
When did Greece rebel against Persian rule? 499 BCE
What was Persian culture like? Mixed melting pot, many conquered cities were able to keep their religion and traditions as well as rulers keeping their title and job.
How was Greek culture like? Shared common beliefs/culture and suspicious to outsiders. Post Greek win saw a period of peace from them, democracy, philosophers, and places made for a cultural center.
Explain Greek society. Wealthy males could enjoy the life of a citizen, while women, slaves, and non-Greeks could not.
Explain Persian society. Many cultures were welcomed, as well as more freedom for women. People who were non-Persian were able to rise to power rather than be of nobility.
