QuestionAnswer
Adhesion An attraction between molecules of different substances; water sticks to other things
Buffer A chemical that helps prevent changes in pH
Co (Prefix) Together
Cohesion Attraction between molecules of the same substance; water sticks to water
Covalent bond A bond formed when atoms share one or more pairs of electrons
Electron Negatively charged particle; located outside of the nucleus
Hydro (Prefix) Relating to or about water
Hydrogen bond The weak attraction of slightly positive hydrogen to a slightly negative portion of another molecule
Neutron A small particle in the nucleus of the atom with no electrical charge
Proton Positively charged particle inside the nucleus of an atom
Polar One end of the molecule is slightly negative and the other end is slightly positive
Surface tension The tightness across the surface of water that is caused by water's cohesion; allows insects to walk on the surface of water.
Nuetral Neither an acid nor a base. A solution with a pH of 7.
Solute A substance that is dissolved in a solution
Solution A mixture in which one substance is dissolved in another
Solvent A liquid substance that dissolves other substances
