| Term | Definition |

| Beaker | Hold approximate amount of liquids (sometime solids), Used to heat liquids, not specific volume |
| Erlenmeyer Flask | Narrow mouthed container used to transport heated and store substances, Used to heat liquids when splashing is dangerous |
| Florence Flask | Flask w/ round bottom, used to hold and heat liquid |
| Volumetric Flask | Contain precise volume and particular temperature, used for precise dilutions and setting standard for solutions |
| Electronic balance | Determine mass, When reads 0 place object on and read #, Report all digits read on the balance |
| Analytical balance | Determines mass w/ high precision, has closed windows to eliminate air error, never exceed maximum compacity |
| Graduated Cylinder | Measures specific amount of liquid, use appropriate size for liquid amount, Plastic ring to prevent from breaking |
| Meniscus | Bottom of curved liquid level in graduated cylinder |
| Ruler/Meter stick | Used to determine length of object, start at zero, read to the correct sig fig |
| Ring stand | Supports Busen burner, iron ring, triangle, etc., heavy metal base with pole |

| Clay triangle | Supports crucible heated over and open flame, intertwined wires with clay overtop |
| Crucible | Small porcelain cup with lid, heats small amounts of material over flame |
| Wire gauze | Meta mesh on metal/iron ring, suspends glass over Bunsen burner, Diffuse heat from flame |
| Ring stand clamp/utility clamp | Hold test tube/secure on ring stand |
| Watch glass | Keep liquid in beaker from splattering |
| Bunsen Burner | Lab equipment that uses natural gas/methane to heat materials |
| Beaker tongs | Used to grasp and transport a hot beaker, Have special coating to grip materials |
| Crucible tongs | Metal tongs to hold crucible, Used to hold hot objects and transfer in and out of flame, No special coating |
| Evaporating dish | Used to evaporate excess solvents/liquids to created concentrated solution, Small porcelain bowl |
| Wash bottle | Wash down pieces of equipment w/ water or keep materials moist, Filled with distilled water |
| Pipet/Micropipet | Measure and dispense small amounts of liquid |
| Hot plate | Used for consistent/uniform heat, heat substances that may be flammable |
| Buret Clamp | Clamp attached to ring stand to hold burets |
| Striker | Lab equipment w/ flint and metal file, flint pushes into file, friction ignites Bunsen burner |
| Stirring rod | Long glass/plastic rod, used to stir solutions |
| Goggles | Personal protective equipment used to cover eyes, two different types |
| Test tube | Used to hold small amounts of liquid for mixing/heating, never point toward yourself or others |
| Test tube holder | Used to hold test tubes |
| Test tube brush | Used to clean inside of test tubes and graduated cylinder |
| Test tube rack | Holds many test tubes filled with solutions and solids |
| Medicine dropper | Glass/Plastic tube w/ rubber top used to obtain small amounts of liquids |
| Forceps | Small metal equipment used to grab/hold small objects when fingers can't be used |
| Spot plate | Flat plate with wells, Used for mixing small amounts of chemicals in microchemistry |
| Stopper | Used to seal test tubes/flasks |
| Funnel | Used to pour liquids into containers w/ small openings |
| Spatula | Used to measure/remove relatively small amounts of solids/powders |
| Scoopula | Used for scooping relatively large amounts of solids/powders |
| Pressed fiber pad | Usually square fiber/ceramic pad providing surface for hot materials to rest on |
| Motar | Used for crushing/grinding chemical solids into powders |
