signal transduction allows the cells to receive and respond to messages
plasma memebrane thin and flexible outer membrane that separates the two major fluid compartments the intercellular or cytosol, and extracellular fluid outside the cell
bilayer a structure consisting of two molecular layers, such as phospholipids bilayer of the cell membrane
receptors respond to extracellular signals
pores, channels, carriers transports small molecules and ions, transduce signals
