what is anarchy? (1) political belief than an absence of gov is best for a country
ex. of maintaining order (3) law creation, government mandates, government existence
ex. of public services (5) fire dept., hospitals, medicaid, education, SNAP benefits
ex. national security (3) air force, navy, military
ex. economic security/assistance welfare system (ES); SNAP benefits (EA)
what is government? (1) an institution through which leaders exercise power to make and enforce laws affecting the people under its control
characteristics of state terms (5) state, sovereignty, nation, country, county
what is a state? (2) a political community (population) that occupies a definite territory; has an organized gov and political sovereignty
what is sovereignty? (1) the supreme and absolute authority within territorial boundaries
what is a nation? (1 - small things) a group united by bonds of race, language, customs, and traditions, and sometimes religion
what is a country? (2) a political community that occupies a definite territory; has an organized government; synonymous to state
what is a county? (2) a political and administrative division of a states; provides certain local government services
what composes a representative democracy? (9) education choices; property rights, limited government; government can seize property under due process; eminent domain; jury trials allowed; separation of power; secret ballot in elections; due process for all
what composes a authoritarian government? (6) unlimited government; controlled access to internet; government can seize property with no restrictions; government above the law; force used to keep peace; rights not ensured
what is a representative democracy (republic)? a form of government in which elected representatives are chosen by the people to vote on their behalf
