| unreliable narrator | a narrator who cannot be trusted because they might be lying, biased, or have a distorted reality |
| theme | the central message or "big idea" of a story |
| symbolism | when a physical object represents a bigger, abstract idea |
| situational irony | when the exact opposite of what you expect happens |
| verbal irony | when a character says one thing but means the opposite |
| detailed summary | a chronological account of the most important events |
