Because the Bt corn has the poisonous bacterium (Bt) what do farmers no longer have to do to the corn? Spray pesticides
Do all people agree that Bt corn is safe? No
Why is lessening pesticides great news? Better for the environment, saves time and money
What does one farmer claim is the only harm of using Bt corn? It only kills rootworms and corn borers
What are the benefits of using Bt corn produce Increases profit and productivity
What does it mean to increase profit? Make more money
What does it mean to increase productivity? Increase the amount of corn grown
What does it mean if corn is a “staple?” People use it a lot
What is a consumer? Someone who buys or uses something
What concern do consumers have about Bt corn? There isn’t enough research on the consequences of using it
What does GM stand for? Genetically modified
What is genetically modified (GM) usually tested on? Lab rats
What is a concerning report from some GM testing? Lesions on mouse stomachs and rats have died
What has happened to the root worms as a result of using Bt corn? They are becoming resistant to the poison.
What does it mean to be resistant to poison? That poison will not harm or kill the insects
What are advancements? improvements that move an idea ahead
What is agriculture? the science and business of raising crops and farm animals
What are characteristics? Qualities that identify a person or thing

What does it mean to disagree? To have a different opinion about something
