Which event made the arrival of the plague more severe? famine
Where did the plague begin? Asia
What is one reason plague doctors dressed in masks? They believed the disease was carried by bad smells?
How did the Black Death lead to the end of feudalism? Remind students feudalism is the pyramid of command - King, Knights, Barons, and Peasants. It was a system built on loyalty. Serfs (peasants) who survived the plague demanded payment for their work.
What was one cause of the Hundred Years' War? Feudal ties caused English nobles to owe loyalty to the French King.
What was One effect of the longbow in the Hundred Years War? The English were able to defeat a much larger French force at Agincourt.
Who was Joan of Arc? she was an important military leader.
How did Henry V shaped the culture of the Middle Ages? He encouraged the use of English in official documents and literature.
What were the effects of the Hundred Years' War? It left the French king in control of almost all of France. It also, resulted in increased nationalism in France and England.
Students will need to choose a line from the passage that supports the conclusion that the English won the battle. "When the Genoways felt the arrows...many of them cast down their bows and did cut their strings and returned discomfited (embarrassed)".
Students will write a well written paragraph to the following prompt (20 points) with the RACES strategy plus writing conventions and organization. THE PROMPT: What evidence from Chapter 3 supports the claim that the Black Death contributed to the end of feudalism in Europe? (The textual passage will be available to acquire textual evidence that supports their claim.)
