| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Adhesion | Water sticks to other materials |
| Cohesion | Water sticking to other water via hydrogen bonds |
| Polar molecule | Compound with one negatively charged side and one positively charged side |
| Hydrogen bond | Hydrogen (positive) attracts to oxygen (negative) |
| Surface tension | Water sticked together at the top to make a thin layer of "skin" which is why water falls in drops and be in clumps instead of spreading out |
| Capillary action | When cohesion and adhesion work together |
| Specific heart capacity | Amount of heat it requires to change the temperature of a unit of mass by a given substance by a unit amount |
| Expansion upon freezing | When water gets colder the molecules move away from each other making the water expand and become less dense |
| Universal solvent | Water resolves more substances then any other liquid |
