| dependent variable | the variable that changes based off of the independent variable |
| experimental group | exposed to all conditions including changes in the independent variable |
| independent variable | the variable that is deliberately changed |
| inference | a logical interpretation based on what scientists already know |
| observation | the act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way |
| peer review | showing and sharing information with other scientists in hopes of ensuring the highest quality of information. |
| bias | a natural/forced preference towards one idea |
| variable | factors within an experiment that will be tested |
| adhesion | water molecules stick to other materials |
| cohesion | water molecules stick to each other |
| polar molecule | a compound with one negatively charged side and one positively charged side is a polar molecule |
| hydrogen bond | the side with the hydrogen atoms (positive charge) attracts the oxygen side (negative charge) of a different water molecule. hydrogen bond |
| surface tension | water has a thin skin on its surface due to the water molecules sticking together. causes water to clump together in drops |
