Saprobic fungi Feeding on decaying organic matter
Endophytic fungi Living in a plant without causing disease. Often mutualistic!
Epiphytic fungi Growing on a plant; can be mutualistic, commensal, or pathogenic
Lichenized fungi Living symbiotically with algae or cyanobacteria
Pathogenic fungi Causing diseases in organisms
Entomopathogenic fungi Fungi that are pathogenic to insects
Mycorrhizae Large networks of hyphae, often underground
Endomycorrhizae Arbuscular mycorrhizae belonging to phylum Glomeromycota that penetrate plant cells
Ectomycorrhizae Mycorrhizae belonging to phyla Basidiomycota and Ascomycota that grow on plants without deeply penetrating them
