| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| volume | the amount of three-dimensional space occupied by an object or enclosed within a container |
| surface area | the total measure of all the outward-facing surfaces of a three-dimensional object. |
| prism | a three dimensional geometric shape with two identical, parallel bases |
| cube | a three-dimensional geometric shape with six equal square faces, twelve straight edges of the same length, and eight vertices |
| cube root | a special value that, when multiplied by itself three times, gives the original number |
| perfect cube | a number you get when you multiply a whole number by itself three times |
| cylinder | a three-dimensional geometric shape that has two parallel, identical circular bases connected by a curved surface (looks like a can of soup) |
| base | the side of a two-dimensional shape or the face of a three-dimensional solid used as a reference line or surface to measure height and calculate area or volume |
| regular solid | a three-dimensional shape where every face is the exact same |
| cone | a three-dimensional shape that has a flat circular base and a curved side that narrows smoothly up to a single point called the apex |
| pyramid | a three-dimensional polyhedron with a flat polygon base and triangular lateral faces that connect at a single top point called the apex |
| lateral faces | the sides of a three-dimensional geometric shape that connect the bases, excluding the top and bottom faces themselves |
| slant height | the diagonal distance measured along the outside surface of a 3D geometric shape—like a cone or a pyramid—from its top point (apex) down to the edge of its base |
| right | an internal angle that measures exactly 90 degrees, forming a square corner where two lines are perpendicular |
| oblique | slanted, tilted, or meeting at any angle that is not a right angle (90°) or a multiple of 90° |
| apex | the highest vertex or point on a geometric shape that sits opposite the base |
| sphere | a perfectly round three-dimensional shape where every point on the surface is the exact same distance from the center |
| sector | a pie-shaped portion of a circle enclosed by two radii and an arc |
| scientific notation | a short way to write very large or very small numbers using a coefficient multiplied by a power of 10 |
| decimal notation | a base-10 way of writing numbers using a decimal point to separate whole numbers from fractional parts |
