| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| positive rate of change | as one quantity increases, the other quantity also increases |
| negative rate of change | as one quantity increases, the other quantity decreases |
| constant rate of change | a steady, unchanging ratio between two variables where one quantity changes by the exact same amount for every equal change in the other quantity |
| increasing function | a function where the output (y)-value goes up as the input (x)-value increases from left to right |
| decreasing function | a function whose output (y)-value goes down as you move from left to right (x)-value increases along an interval |
| relation | a connection or link between elements of two sets, written as a set of ordered pairs (x, y) |
| curve | a continuous, one-dimensional shape that is not straight |
| nonlinear | a mathematical relationship between two quantities where the graph is not a straight line |
| input | the starting value you put into a function or rule (x-value) |
| output | an output is the final result that comes out of function or rule (y-value) |
| correspond | two or more elements, sides, or angles in different figures or sets match by occupying the same relative position (corresponding sides or corresponding angles) |
| function | a special rule or relationship that assigns a single, unique output to each individual input. |
| perimeter | the continuous line or distance that forms the outer boundary of a two-dimensional shape |
| circumference | the total distance around the outside edge of a circle or any other curved geometric shape |
| surface area | the total measure of all the outward-facing surfaces of a three-dimensional object |
| volume | the amount of three-dimensional space occupied by an object or enclosed within a container |
| solid | a three-dimensional figure that occupies space and has length, width, and height |
| cylinder | a three-dimensional geometric shape with two parallel, identical circular bases connected by a curved surface |
| prism | a three-dimensional geometric shape with two identical, parallel bases |
| base | the side of a two-dimensional shape or the face of a three-dimensional solid used as a reference line or surface to measure height and calculate area or volume |
