transversal a line that crosses two or more other lines in the same plane at different points
supplementary angles two angles whose measures add up to exactly 180 degrees
complementary angles two angles whose measures add up to exactly 90 degrees
interior angles an angle formed on the inside of a shape by two adjacent sides
exterior angles angle between any side of a shape and a line extended from the next side
leg one of the two shorter sides of a right triangle that meet to form the 90-degree right angle
right triangle a triangle that has one interior angle measuring exactly 90 degrees
triangle sum theorem the three interior angles of any triangle always add up to 180 degrees
remote interior angles the two inside angles of a triangle that do not touch or share a vertex with a given exterior angle
angle-angle similarity theorem if two angles of one triangle are equal in measure to two angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar
right triangle theorem which states that the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the two legs (a^2 + b^2 = c^2)
square root a value that, when multiplied by itself, gives the original number
hypotenuse the longest side of a right triangle, located directly opposite the 90-degree right angle
rational number any number that can be written as a simple fraction using two integers, where the bottom number (the denominator) is not zero
irrational number a real number that cannot be written as a simple fraction or ratio of two integers (example: pi)
terminating decimal a decimal number that has a fixed, countable number of digits after the decimal point and does not go on forever
non-terminating decimal a number with digits after the decimal point that continue forever without ending
repeating decimal a number whose decimal representation has a digit or group of digits that repeats forever
non-repeating decimal an infinite decimal number where the digits after the decimal point do not repeat in a repeating pattern
