| Memory formation | The process by which experiences become represented by changes in neural circuits. |
| Memory consolidation | Processes that stabilize and strengthen newly formed memories over time. |
| Memory retrieval | The reactivation of stored information or neural representations so they can influence current thinking or behavior. |
| Habituation | A decreased response to a repeated, harmless stimulus. |
| Sensitization | An increased response to a stimulus following exposure to a strong or significant stimulus. |
| Conditioning | Learning in which experience creates an association between stimuli, responses, or behaviors. |
