basic computation terms

the answer to an addition problem sum
the number that is being subtracted FROM minuend

the answer to a subtraction problem difference
each of the two numbers that are being multiplied together factors
the answer to a multiplication problem product
the number that is BEING divided dividend
the amount that a number is being divided BY divisor
the answer to a division problem quotient
the point in a number that separates whole numbers from parts less than one whole decimal
to find an answer close to the exact amount without solving the original problem estimate
a form of estimation using place value to shorten a number to make it easier to work with (5 & above give it a shove—4 and below let it go) rounding
a form of estimation that changes the original numbers to something close that is easier to work with (Think math facts!) compatible numbers
