| continuous | a mathematical function where small changes in the input lead to small changes in the output, meaning you can draw its graph without lifting your pen |
| discrete | distinct, separate, and countable values that cannot be broken down into smooth fractions or continuous ranges |
| distributive property | multiplying a number by a group of numbers added or subtracted together gives the same result as multiplying each number in the group individually and then combining the results a(b + c) = ab + ac |
| linear form | a mathematical equation, function, or model that makes a straight line when you draw it on a graph |
| negative association | a relationship between two variables where an increase in one variable tends to be linked with a decrease in the other |
| no association | a graph where the dots are spread out randomly, showing no clear upward, downward, or curved pattern between two variables |
| nonlinear form | a mathematical equation, function, or model that does not make a straight line when you draw it on a graph |
| outlier | a data point that lies an abnormal distance away from other values and does not fit the general pattern of a group |
| patterns | a predictable sequence of numbers, shapes, or objects that follow a specific rule |
| positive association | occurs when two variables move in the same direction, meaning as one variable increases, the other variable also tends to increase |
| rate of change | measures how much one quantity changes in relation to another quantity over time or distance |
| rules | a clear instruction or procedure that tells you how to solve a problem, perform an operation, or describe a pattern |
| strong association | data points on a scatter plot sit very close to a clear line or pattern |
| trend line | a straight or curved line drawn on a graph or chart to show the general direction and pattern of data over time |
| weak association | data points show a slight trend or relationship, but the data points are spread out and do not tightly follow a clear pattern |
| (x,y) pair | a set of two numbers written in a specific order (x,y) that represents a specific location or relationship |
| (x,y) table | two-column chart used to list pairs of related numbers, where the first column contains input values (x) and the second column contains output values (y) |
