Limited Government Government has restrictions (the power of government is not absolute)

Social Contract Implicit agreement to maintain social order
Popular Sovereignty The people give the government power
Republicanism The people and their elected representitives hold the power
State of Nature Experiment that describes human existence and behavior before the creation of formal government, laws, and organized society.
Separation of Powers Branches are legislative, executive, and judicial
Checks and Balances Each branch influences the others
Inalienable Rights Inherent freedoms belonging to every person that a government cannot take away or transfer
