The Aztec

TermDefinition
Basin A low area of land surrounded by higher land, where water often collects.
Chinampa A small, human-made farming area built in shallow lake water. The Aztec used chinampas to grow crops.
Dike A wall or barrier built to control water and prevent flooding.
Absolute monarchy A government in which one ruler has complete or nearly complete power.
Aqueduct A structure built to carry water from one place to another.
Rigid Very strict and difficult to change. For example, Aztec society had a rigid social class system.
Purchase To buy something by paying money or trading something of value.
