What is Human Geography? study of humanity and society from a spatial perspective.
What are the five themes of geography? Location, Human environment interaction, Region, Place
Relative Location Locations compared to other places
Absolute Location Address, longitude, GPS Coordinates , or the exact location
Human Environmental Interaction When humans alter the environment or when the environment changes affect humans.
Region A region is an area of Earth with a degree of similarity that differentiates it from surrounding areas.
Formal region A formal region has a shared trait, either physical or cultural
Functional region An area that shares a common purpose
Vernacular Region (AP)- Perceptual Region (Nor) Images people carry in their minds based on accumulated knowledge of people, places, and things
Place (two aspects) Physical- rivers, mountains, etc Human- language, religion, fashion, etc
Movement Movement refers to the mobility of people, goods, and ideas. It's an expression of the interconnectedness of places.
Diffusion- going to be a lot of questions on this BTW. Be ready to answer what examples of each type on test When an idea disseminates or spreads across space
Contagious Diffusion An idea spreads through all people or locations that are adjacent to the hearth and one another- EX Memes from one to another
Hierarchical Diffusion Defined by how an idea spreads by was of a first order location. Might happen when an idea spreads from a influential person
Stimulus The basic Idea triggers someone to adopt that idea and expand on it. EX: Mcdonalds in INDIA
Map Scale- on test Point to point distance on a map as a representation of distance in reality
Relative Scale- prob on test The level within which you group phenomenon for analysis
Relocation diffusion- sorry out of order Occurs when an idea or innovation spreads from its hearth by the action of people moving and taking it with them
Cultural Landscape The visible imprint of human activity on mind
Remote sensing Method of collecting data or info through instruments that are physically distant
