| Invest | to put time or money into something in the hopes of earning a future benefit, usually more money |
| Colony | a settlement controlled by a separate country |
| Charter | an official document in which certain rights are given by a government to a person or business |
| Stock | a share in the ownership and profits of a company |
| Colonist | a person who establishes or lives in a colony |
| Peninsula | an area of land surrounded by water on three sides |
| Council | a group of people who come together to discuss issues, make decisions, or offer advice |
| President | the title typically given to the chief executive and head of government in a presidential democracy |
| Representative | a person chosen to act, speak, or make decisions for another person or group of people |
| Burgess | a representative of a town or other district in a British government's legislature |
| Cash Crop | a crop grown for the purpose of selling rather than local consumption |
| Private Ownership | businesses, property, and resources, belonging to individual citizens instead of the government |
| Mutiny | to rebel against authority, especially on a ship |
| Compact | a formal agreement or contract between two or more parties |
| Assembly | a group of people gathered for a specific purpose |
| Cultivate | to prepare and use land for crops |
| Indentured Servant | a person who is bound to work for another for a specific period of time |
| Enslave | to force someone to work as a slave |
