what does antipyretics mean? fever preventing/removing
what is pulse rate? number of times per minute ventricles eject blood into arteries
what's a normal adult pulse rate? 60-100 BPM
what is tachychardia? adult pulse rate > 100 BPM
what is bradycardia? adult pulse rate < 60
what is dysrhythmia? abnormal pulse rythm
what is a pulse deficit? mathematical difference between apical and radial pulse
2 situations when apical pulse would be measured rather than radial pulse? when pulse is weak it doesn't perfuse well to peripheral pulses
pulse quality- 0 no pulse detected
pulse quality- 1+ thready, weak, easily obliterated with pressure, pulse may come and go
pulse quality- 2+ difficult to palpate, may be obliterated with pressure
pulse quality- 3+ normal pulse
pulse quality- 4+ bounding, hyperactive, easily palpated & cannot be obliterated
