Name the six kitchen safety basics. Focus on what your doing / Dress for safety / Practice safe use of all tools and equipment / close drawers and doors / store large pots on low shelves / control clutter
What are three precautions to take to prevent falls? Pants are not too long / keep floor clear from clutter / shoe lasses tied / use a step stool to reach top shelf.
Explain three ways to avoid accidents with sharp edges. Store knifes in a safe place / keep fingers away from rough surfaces / sweep up dangerous items at once.
How can fires and burns be prevented by basic cleanliness and using equipment in good condition? Greece and bits of food can build up and catch on fire.
How can nonfood items be a fire hazard around the cooktop? Curtains, loose clothing, hair, paper goods, potholders, can all catch on fire if the burners are on.
How would you relight a pilot light? Strike the match first and then turn the burner on.
What are three things you can do to smother a fire in a skillet? Put lid on it or use other skillet / baking soda and salt.
Why should you turn off small electrical appliances when you are through using them? When turned on their is a river of electrical current and a damage wire can start a fire.
What should you do if your hand mixer falls in the dishpan? Unplug from wall then fish it out and dry it off.
Explain why it could be dangerous to mix different cleaning products. It can cause a chemical reaction and can be toxic.
Name four grilling guidelines. Start with a clean grill / make sure grill is on a level surface / never grill indoors / put enough starting fluid on charcoal before you light the match.
What precautions should be taken when cooking if small children are in the home? Never take eyes off of them / use safety latches for poisonous stuff / give them a child size step stool and table so they can help you / Model safety for your kitchen.
What modifications can be made to help a physically challenged person in the kitchen? Turn more lights on / use unbreakable glasses, pots, and civil wear / store frequently used stuff in easy stored places.
Why is it important to stay calm in an emergency? Panic keeps you from thinking clearly.
