Population Consists of all the individuals of a species that live together in one place at one time
Population size Number of individuals in a population.
Population density Is the number of individuals that live in a given area.
Dispersion The way individuals in a population are arranged in space.
Population model Is a hypothetical population that attempts to exhibit the key characteristics of a real population.
Exponential growth curve Is a curve in which the rate of population growth stays the same, as a result the population size increases steadily
Carrying capacity The population size that an environment can sustain.
Density-Dependent factor limited resources which become depleted as populations use them
Logistic model Is a population model in which exponential growth is limited by a density-dependent factor.
Density-Independent factor Environmental factors that limit the growth of populations
R-strategist species that Grow exponentially when environmental conditions allow them to reproduce.
K-strategist Species that grow slowly and their population density is usually near carrying capacity.
Hardy-Weinberg principle The frequencies of alleles in a population do not change unless evolutionary forces act on the population.
Gene flow The movement of alleles into or out of a population.
Nonrandom mating Mating with others that live nearby or are of their own phenotype.
Genetic drift Change in allele frequency appears to occur randomly, small populations that are isolated from each other can differ greatly.
Polygenic trait A trait that is influenced by several genes.
Normal distribution Values would probably form a hill shape curve, as the average values would be at the summit .
Directional selection Causes the frequency of a trait to move in one direction.
Stabilizing selection distribution becomes narrower as their is an increase in the proportion of similar individuals
