RoHS regulates the hazardous materials used to manufacture that equipment in the first place. RoHS restricts the use of ten hazardous substances in electronics—most notably lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium.

It defines the legal requirements for ergonomic workstation setup—such as setting the assembly workbench at elbow height to prevent slouching and implementing high-quality, non-glare task lighting to prevent eye strain.

Health and Safety at Work (HSWA) (1974)

This Act provides the overarching legal framework for workplace safety in the UK. It places a duty on employers to ensure a safe work environment and importantly, a duty on employees to protect their own personal safety and that of others around them. You have responsibility for your safety and others. Fines: Unlimited and or, 12 months imprisonment.

UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

This act mandates how personal data must be stored, processed, and secured. Fines: Up to £17.5 million or 2% of the total world wide annual turnover (whichever is higher).

Computer Misuse Act (CMA) 1990

Criminalises unauthorized access to computer systems, modification of data, and handling of unauthorized authentication tools. Fine: Imprisonment and/or unlimited fines.

United Nations Net Zero Goals (Aimed at 2050)

Reduce all world net carbon emissions to zero.

ElectroStatic Discharge strap, gets rid of the electrical charge on the body before touching delicate electrical components. - Protects against losing data. This good Process can help save data loss! It is an important point to make.

WEEE Regulations and data compliance relationship

Examples of how WEEE compliance relates to data security: Securely wipe all storage media to protect corporate data (eg: HMG Infosec Standard 5 or using the NIST SP 800-88 data erasing standard. Update Asset Registers. This relates to Process.
