science A collection of observations, inferences and models produced through a systematic study of God’s created natural world that enables humans to exercise Dominion of God’s creation
observation The act of noticing
Inference A logical interpretation based on what is already known
Hypothesis A scientific explanation for a set of observations that can be tested
controlled experiment An experiment in which only one variable is changed
Control group Exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except for one independent variable
Variable Factors that can change and affect the experiment
independent variable The variable that is deliberately changed
dependent variable The variable that is observed which changes in response to the independent variable
Data Records of experimental observations
Quantitative Numbers obtained by counting or measuring
Qualitative Descriptive information
Peer review An anonymous independent review that looks for oversight, bias, and mistakes
Bias A particular preference or view
Theory A well tested explanation that unifies observations and allows scientist to make predictions
Law A specific description of how the natural world behaves
Homeostasis Relatively constant internal physical and chemical conditions that organisms maintain
Biology The study of living things
Metabolism The sum of the chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials
Multicellular Organisms made of many cells
Unicellular Organism made of one cell
Differentiation Cells change into specific types of cells
Stimulus A signal to which an organism responds
