| (acronyms) COPD | Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. A lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe. |
| URI | Upper respiratory tract infection. infection that affects the upper part of the respiratory system, such as nose and throat. |
| SOB | Shortness of Breath. a feeling of having difficulty or not getting enough air. |
| O2 | Oxygen. a gas the body needs to survive and that's carried through blood. |
| CO2 | Carbon Dioxide. a waste gas produced by the body that is removed when we breath out. |
| (abbreviations) RR | Respiratory Rate. the number of breaths a person takes per minute. |
| CXR | Chest X-ray. an imaging test used to look at the lungs and chest. |
| PFT | Pulmonary Function Test. A test that measures how well the lungs are working. |
| Sp02 | Oxygen Saturation. The percentage of oxygen being carried into the blood. |
| LPM | Liters Per Minute. a measurement commonly used when describing the flow rate of supplemental oxygen. |
| (Eponyms) Heimlich maneuver | Heimlich maneuver- a technique used to help someone who is choking by applying abdominal thrusts to clear obstructed airway. |
| Cheyne-strokes respiration | strokes respiration. a breathing pattern where breathing becomes gradually deeper and faster and gradually becomes slower, followed by shorty pause. |
| Kussmaul Respirations | a deep, rapid breathing that can occur with severe metabolic problems, especially diabetic ketoacidosis. |
| Wegener granulomatosis | an older name fir granulomatosis with polyangiitis, a condition that can cause inflammation in blood vessels and affect the respiratory tract. |
| Kartagener syndrome | a rare inherited condition involving abnormal movement of tiny cilia in the respiratory tract, which can cause repeated respiratory infections. |
