| What is an essential element? | An essential element that an organism needs to exist, grow, and reproduce EX: Oxygen |
| What is a trace element? | A trace element is something that an organism needs to perform enzymatic, metabolic, and physiological function EX: Iron |
| What is a neutron? | A subatomic particle that has no negative and no positive charge, Its mass is slightly bigger than a proton–found in the nucleus of an atom |
| What is a Proton? | A subatomic particle that has a positive charge–it’s found in the center(nucleus) of every atom. |
| What is an electron? | A subatomic particle that has a negative charge, smallest of the three–circles around the nucleus of the atom. This determines an element's reactivity. |
| What is atomic mass? | Total mass of a single atom |
| What is an atomic number? | How many protons an atom of an element has. |
| What is an isotope? | a variant of a chemical element that has the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons in its nucleus |
| What is an electron shell | fixed energy levels where electrons orbit an atom’s nucleus. |
| What are radioactive isotopes? | It’s an atom with an unstable nucleus that releases energy and particles as radiation to stabilize |
| What is the only subatomic particle that is directly involved in the chemical reactions between atoms? | Electrons determine atomic reactivity. |
| What is potential energy? | Stored energy that is possessed by an object due to its position, state, or configuration relative to other objects. |
