| race | the way society groups people based on physical characteristics and ancestry |
| ethnicity | cultural group a person identifies with based on shared traditions, ancestry, and culture |
| enculturation | how people learn their culture and how to behave within it |
| acculturation | adjusting to or adopting parts of a new culture while keeping parts of your own culture |
| omnivore's paradox | idea that humans want to try a variety of foods but may also fear or avoid unfamiliar foods |
| self-identity | how you see yourself and what makes you who you are |
| symbolic use of food | when food is used to represent or communicate ideas, beliefs, emotions, or social relationships |
| cultural identity | sense of belonging to a particular group or culture based on shared tradition, values, language, beliefs, history, and customs |
