Allergic Contact Dermatitis An itchy, red skin rash that happens when your immune system reacts to a specific substance touching your skin
Anaphylaxis A sudden, severe, and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that affects the entire body
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) An emergency life-saving procedure performed when a person's heart or breathing has stopped
Chemical Hygiene Plan A formal written program that outlines procedures, equipment, and work practices to protect laboratory workers from health and safety hazards caused by hazardous chemical
Department Transportation (DOT) label A standardized, diamond-shaped warning sign placed on shipping packages to identify dangerous goods and communicate safety risks during transit
Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals An international standard created by the United Nations to make the classification and communication of chemical hazards uniform around the world
Irritant Contact Dermatitis A common skin condition where the outer layer of the skin gets damaged by direct contact with a chemical or physical substance, rather than by an allergic immune reaction
Latex Sensitivity An immune system reaction or skin irritation triggered by contact with natural rubber latex products
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Label A standardized hazard identification system defined by the National Fire Protection Association under standard 704 to alert emergency responders to chemical risk
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) A federal regulatory agency of the United States Department of Labor that ensures safe and healthy working conditions for American workers.
Radioactive Hazard Symbol It warns people that ionizing radiation is present at levels that require caution, restricted access, or protective equipment
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) An official document that provides detailed health, safety, and environmental information about a hazardous chemical or product
Sharps Medical devices with sharp points or edges that can puncture or cut the skin
