Phlebotomy Terms

TermDefinition
Allergic Contact Dermatitis A true allergic response where the body reacts negatively to the intake of latex proteins through the skin or air.
Anaphylaxis A rapid, severe immune allergic reaction that can be life-threatening if not treated.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation A medical procedure in which a series of chest compressions and breaths that are given in response to an irregular heart rhythm and incapacitation.
Chemical Hygiene Plan A plan describing all safety procedures, special precautions, and emergency procedures when working with chemicals.
Department of Transportation (DOT) label A label that displays the type of hazard, the United Nations hazard class number, and an identifying number.
Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals A label given to chemicals that shows the identity of the chemical, the chemical manufacturer or other responsible party, appropriate hazard warning symbols, explanations of said hazards, and first-aid procedures.
Irritant Contact Dermatitis An allergic reaction to chemicals left on a piece of latex after manufacturing.
Latex Sensitivity A bodily sensitivity to the latex or the chemicals left on it after processing.
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) label A label used by firefighters to identify potentially hazardous chemicals in the case of a fire.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) An agency that informs workers about hazards and protects workers from harm with the goal of regulating any and all workplace safety.
Radioactive Hazard Symbol A symbol to display an area where levels of radioactivity are present.
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) A sheet that provides information about a chemical, the chemical's hazards, and the procedures for cleanup and first aid.
Sharps Any item that has a sharp point and could cause harm to an individual.
