Stars and Planets

TermDefinition
1. Rotate To spin around an axis.
2. Axis An imaginary line that runs through center of the Earth from the North Pole to the South pole.
3. Revolve To travel in a closed path around the sun.
4. Orbit An object's path in space around another object.
5. Moon A small planet-like body that revolves around Earth rather than the sun.
6. Phases As the moon revolves around Earth, different amounts of its lit surface can be seen.
7. Solar system Is a group of objects in space that orbit a star in the center, plus the star itself.
8. Planet Is a large object that revolves around a star in a clear orbit
9. Dwarf planet Also revolves around a star, but its path is not clear of other objects.
10. Comet A ball of rock, ice and frozen gases.
11. Star A huge ball of superheated gases.
12. Sun A star that is at the center of our solar system.
13. Constellation A group of stars that form an imaginary picture in the sky.
14. Galaxy A huge system of gases, dust, and stars.
15. Universe Everything that exists in space.
